In the mid 90s; Gina (Kim Basinger) is a wife and a mother of four who lives in Texas town near the border of Mexico. Gina manages to carry out an affair with a local man named Nick Martinez (Joaquim de Almeida). Nick too has a family of his own but unknown to them; Nick's teenage son; Santiago (J. D. Pardo) as well Gina's young daughter; Mariana (Jennifer Lawrence) find out about their love affair. The two teenagers decide to have a love relationship of their own. However; when the young couple's romance is unveiled; Mariana believes that their parents affair should be exposed too. Later; when Gina is making love with Nick in a trailer; Mariana sets the trailer on fire in the hope that the two love birds will get out of the trailer but unfortunately; the flames causes an explosion which claim the lives of both Gina & Nick. The story unfolds further when Mariana escapes to Portland; Oregon and at the same times assumes a new name as Sylvia (Charlize Theron) so as to avoid being detected for her crime. She must now find inner peace in order to get her life back.
